  2. ADFSBuffers - Acorn's recommended settings
  3.  
  4. On any computer fitted with RISC OS 2 or RISC OS 3.00 we recommend 
  5. that ADFSBuffers is always set at zero.
  6.  
  7. With RISC OS 3.10 it is possible to increase the value, however there 
  8. is a slight chance that data on a floppy disc may become corrupted if 
  9. ADFSBuffers is not set to zero. This only applies to the A3010, A3020, 
  10. A4000, A5000 and A4. With these machines we recommend that ADFSBuffers 
  11. is set to zero using the following process:
  12.  
  13. 1) Save any work you wish to keep
  14. 2) Press F12
  15. 3) Type Configure ADFSBuffers 0
  16. 4) Press the Return key twice
  17. 5) Shutdown and switch off the computer. 
  18. 6) Switch it on again after at least five seconds have elapsed.
  19.  
  20. In situations where no critical data is being handled you may benefit 
  21. from an increase in performance if you set ADFSBuffers to 4 or 8 instead 
  22. of zero.
  23.  
  24. Please note that switching on your machine with the R or Delete keys 
  25. held down will reset ADFSBuffers to a non-zero value, so the process 
  26. above must be repeated.

  28. We have been investigating the cause of the problem, and hope to 
  29. introduce a fix as soon as possible to allow ADFSBuffers to be set above 
  30. non zero on the machine type listed above.

  32. Installing Desktop C on non-Acorn Filing Systems
  33.  
  34. We have now prepared an alternative version of the !Install program 
  35. which will work with some third party Filing Systems which the present 
  36. version cannot handle. If you experience problems installing Desktop C 
  37. please write to Customer Services to request a copy of the new !Install 
  38. program. Before doing so, check that all the discs you are using are free 
  39. from defects using the Verify command. You should also check to ensure 
  40. that there are no clashes between the media that you are installing to 
  41. and the floppy discs - check that there are no files which have the same 
  42. name as directory on the floppy disc, and that there is sufficient space 
  43. on the destination disc.

  45. Connecting A3010/A3020 to older Acorn monitors
  46.  
  47. Some people have asked for information about connecting an A3010/A3020 to 
  48. earlier Acorn monitors such as the AKF17. Acorn do not supply a 
  49. connecting lead (since these computers are primarily intended for use 
  50. with AKF30/AKF40 monitors). However details of the adaptor/cable which is 
  51. required can be obtained upon request from Customer Services, and 
  52. ready-made adaptors are available from a number of sources including 
  53. Interconnections (0483 797418).
